Your New Patient Health Check
When you register with our surgery, we invite you to attend a New Patient Health Check. This short appointment helps us get a full picture of your current health and any ongoing needs, so we can provide the best possible care from the start.
What is the New Patient Health Check?
The New Patient Health Check is a routine appointment carried out by one of our nurses or healthcare assistants. It gives us an opportunity to record key health information and discuss any lifestyle factors that may affect your wellbeing.
What’s Included
During your health check, we will:
- Measure your blood pressure – to check for signs of high or low blood pressure.
 - Record your height and weight – from which we calculate your Body Mass Index (BMI).
 - Ask about your lifestyle – including smoking, alcohol use, diet, and physical activity.
 - Review your medical history – including past illnesses, current medications, allergies, and family medical history.
 - Update your records – so our team has accurate information to support your future care.

After Your Health Check
Once the health check is complete, we’ll explain any results and discuss next steps. You may be:
- Signposted to further appointments or clinics (for example, long-term condition reviews or medication reviews).
 - Given advice on healthy lifestyle changes or support services, such as stop-smoking or weight management programmes.
